"My Dear Wife, Mariko's Report" is a sequel to the 2012 visual novel "Please Bang My Wife", released more than six years after the original. While I wasn't a fan of the prequel, the sequel is an improvement in multiple areas, showing that the interim period did some good to the developers and they managed to improve on their formula.
The long wait time between the two games is also reflected in the story, as it has been more than five years since the events of the original. Once again we step into the abode of the Sashihara family, comprised of the wife Mariko and her husband Yasushi. Mariko's affair with her boss Kazuki didn't last long, and eventually they had separated. Since that time, the married couple didn't engage in any other cuckolding scenarios and lived a "normal" life.

Sadly, the routine has kicked in and the passion in the Sashihara family is waning. Yasushi had become better at sex, and could even satisfy his wife sexually, but now sex has become a mechanical affair. Privately each of them wonder if they even love each other anymore. Of course, it is this situation that sees the renewal of Yasushi's cuckolding fetish, and while he initially doesn't confess to Mariko that he wants her to cheat on him again, she has noticed the signs, and has even found a perfect new male to take on as her lover.
Shouhei is Mariko's co-worker and a younger (and virginal) guy, who attracts her attention. Now she can finally act as a teacher in sexual matters, just like her boss Kazuki did to her in her previous affair. The ball is in Yasushi's court now, and he may allow her to start dating a younger and much more energetic colleague, or try to suppress his fetish. The game is mostly linear just like its predecessor, but there does exist an option to not allow Mariko date to Shouhei. This predictably results in a hasty game over, where the couple's sexual life returns to a joyless routine, and Yasushi vainly and hopelessly tries to convince himself he has made a right choice.

If you do allow the affair to proceed, it mostly follows the true and tried very familiar path of many other netorase games, including its own prequel. Mariko would initially have dates with Shouhei, leaving Yasushi in a jealous arousal, and later would tell him all about her sexual exploits, but eventually this will not be enough for him, and he will desire to see them having sex live. A major difference from the previous game is that Shouhei never finds out about Mariko and Yasushi's true situation, and in this VN Yasushi eventually observes them in secret. Not gonna lie, PBMW actually did this one aspect better, as secretly peeping on your wife having sex with her lover is nowhere near as hot as sitting in the same room while they have sex and trash talk you. However, this game does have a very interesting and arousing scene where Mariko secretly records herself having sex with her lover and makes her husband listen to the recording while giving him a handsy.

That said, I did mention that "My Dear Wife, Mariko's Report" has improved some aspects over the prequel, and first and foremost it the fact Mariko is finally a co-protagonist. Like many of Atelier Sakura's games, the prequel had all the scenes from the Mariko's perspective removed from the main game, and only provided them as a bonus in the Gallery. I was so glad this was finally not true, and Mariko's point of view is actually incorporated into the game proper. Every time Mariko visits her boyfriend, we switch to her POV and see her scenes as she sees them. This is definitely my preferred method of experiencing the story, over the male-only perspective. Sooth be told, there is still one hidden bonus scene you might want to watch after beating the game, as the full unedited scene where Yasushi peeps on his wife can only be seen in the Gallery.

The scenes themselves are competent enough, even if they cover the same well known positions, and of course Shouhei is such a stud he can cum ten times in a row without a refractory period. However, there is another vast improvement over the prequel, and that is the graphics. PBMW had an odd and distracting sepia colour filter dumped over the whole game, and many scenes were too close to the screen to appreciate their eroticism. Both of those issues are... non-issue here. The graphics are much more natural looking, and dare I say pretty, while most of the camera angles are also much more natural. Both the aforementioned improvements increased my enjoyment of the game, and the fact the game is almost twice as long as the predecessor also gives us time to appreciate the story and the eroticism more.

Eventually the game comes to its conclusion where we get a choice that determines one of the two available endings. Admittedly, the ending are very hasty and basic, without offering any surprise - the couple can either stop or continue their non-traditional lifestyle - and while at this point both endings are treated as "good", the one where the cuckolding does go on, has a more upbeat and optimistic tone.
"My Dear Wife, Mariko's Report" was a surprisingly enjoyable netorase game, even if it didn't offer anything new, but it might offer 4 hours of fun for the lovers of the netorase fetish, and you don't really have to play the prequel to engage this VN.
It's worth mentioning, that while the fan-translation of the VN appears to be competent, the game is chock-full of improper line breaks, however the prequel also suffered from this same problem and it was an officially translated title.
