Ouroboros (by Sierra Lee) walkthrough

"Ouroboros" is a short ero adventure game made in RPG Maker MV by Sierra Lee. This is a spoiler-free walkthrough I wrote for the game after playing through it. It's also important to mention that some posts on ULMF forum were very helpful to me when I got stuck and serve as the basis for this guide.

Note: the walkthrough is only supposed to be used with the free version of the game. The commercial v2.0 version changed too much for this walkthrough to be accurate anymore.

Walkthrough

Cycle 1
1. Follow Slimey's directions to the City.
2. Complete the quests in the City, until you have enough money to buy the Big Bomb.
3. Use the bomb on the obstacle to the West of the City.
4. Complete the Stone Cave. It's pretty straightforward - just press the switches until you reach the empty chest and meet Teira.
5. You learned the Stone Hammer ability. Now collect the chests you now can reach with this ability and use the obtained money to buy the Ice Armour and the Fire Sword.
6. Go to the South and complete the Ice Cave. Examine the chest with the Magic Lantern, then find and press three switches and examine the chest again.
7. You gained the Magic Lantern. Now collect the chests you now can reach with this ability and use the obtained money to buy the Fire Armour and the Ice Sword.
8. Go to the North and try to enter the Fire Cave. Return to the City, talk to Amiel and take her to the Cave. Find a Fairy near the Cave and talk to her. Now enter the cave and kill all the goblins. Return and talk to the Fairy.
9. You gained the Grate-Removing Horn. Now collect the chests you now can reach with this ability and use the obtained money to buy the Holy Armour and the Holy Sword.
10. Go to the Castle and smash the barrier.
11. Enter the Castle and hunt for the keys, which you can use to enter the locked rooms in order to smash the 4 Crystals.
12. Now go to the throne room and kill the Vizier.

Cycle 2
1. Your objective in this Cycle is to buy the Fire Amulet, which costs 999 gold. Don't buy any armour or swords at all.
2. Go to the City and do quests until you have enough money to buy the Big Bomb.
3. Use the bomb on the obstacle to the West of the City.
4. Complete the Stone Cave.
5. Instead of going to the Ice Cave, go North and then North-West of the Stone Cave, following the path.
6. Eventually you'll reach the clearing. Find a Monolith (1) and touch it six times until you get a plot important scene.
7. Return to the City and talk to all three girls.
8. Return to the clearing where you started the game and touch the Monolith (2) there.
9. Return to the City. Talk to Emantha and choose to use the spell on her. Take all the items in her shop, especially the Magic Candle. Talk to Emantha again about relationships. H-scene 1 (requirement: taking the Candle).
10. Complete the Ice Cave (you need the money, rather than the artifact).
11. Complete the Fire Cave.
12. Use the money to buy the Fire Amulet.
13. Go back towards the Fire Cave, but in the courtyard turn right. Vanquish the pillar of fire with the Amulet and enter a clearing with the third Monolith (3).
14. Touch the Monolith.
15. Return to the City, talk to Teira and choose to use the spell on her.
16. Go to the Castle and smash the barrier.
17. Enter the Castle and smash the 4 Crystals (you don't need to look for keys anymore, as you can pick the locks now).
18. Now go to the throne room and kill the Vizier.

Cycle 3
1. Go to the City. Talk to Emantha and Teira and choose to use the spell on them.
2. Take the Magic Candle at Emantha's shop and talk to Teira in order to learn the Hammer Fist ability.
3. Do the quests until you have enough money to buy the Big Bomb.
4. Use the bomb on the obstacle to the South of the Ice Cave.
5. Enter the clearing where you'll find the fourth Monolith (4). Touch the Monolith.
6. While returning to the city visit the Ice Cave and take the Magic Lantern.
7. Return to the City and talk to Amiel. Choose to use the spell on her.
8. Check the locked shack and kick its door down. Nothing of interest... yet.
9. Go and talk to the Fairy by the Fire Cave. H-scene 2 (requirement: awakened Amiel in the party).
10. Go to the City, enter Amiel's house and talk to her about relationships. H-scene 3 (requirement: seeing H-scene 2 beforehand).
11. Go back to the Fire Cave courtyard and turn right past the pillar of fire (you don't have to re-buy the Amulet - you have retained it from the previous Cycle). Enter the clearing with the third Monolith.
12. Now with Amiel in your party you can enter the ominous doorway protected by fairy fires.
13. Find something glittering on the dungeon floor. Get the Shack Key. You might also examine the magical fire for some awesome equipment.
14. If you continue to the end of the dungeon, you will enter the endgame scenario, but we may want to repeat the Cycle once more for some bonus scenes.
15. Return to the City.
16. Go to the Castle and kill the Vizier.

Cycle 4
1. Go to the City. Talk to all three girls and use the spell on them. Don't forget to take the Magic Candle.
2. Get enough money to buy the Big Bomb.
3. Use the bomb on the obstacle to the West of the City.
4. Complete the Stone Cave.
5. Return to the City and talk to Teira in her home about relationships. H-scene 4 (requirement: finishing the Stone Cave with Teira in the party).
6. Go to the Fire Cave courtyard and talk to the Fairy.
7. Go to the Ice Cave and retrieve the Magic Lantern.
8. Now, instead of the usual ambush you'll get H-scene 5 (requirement: having the Grate-Removing Horn in your possession before retrieving the Magic Lantern).
9. Go back to the City. Enter Emantha's house and talk to her about combining items (Magic Candle and Magic Lantern get combined into one super item).
10. Go to the locked shack. Now, instead of breaking the door you'll use the Shack Key.
11. The inside has now changed and leads directly to the dungeon, where you previously found the Shack Key.
12. Complete the dungeon and break the Crystal at the end.
13. You are in the Castle now.
14. Use the door on the third floor to go onto the castle battlements. You'll find a new entrance where there was a mini-Monolith before.
15. Enter the new entrance and fight the Final Boss.
16. H-scene 6 (requirement: finishing the game)!

Optional bosses:
Super enemies that drop valuable equipment that remains permanently in your inventory through all the cycles. There are 9 of them:
1. Golem - on the way to the first Monolith. Strong versus the magical attacks, weak versus physical ones.
2. Scythe - by the first Monolith. Has a one-hit-kill attack (unless Etreyan's HP is very high), but has basically no defence and falls very quickly.
3. Succubus - by the third Monolith. The weakest of the bosses. You don't even need the full party to kill her.
4. A flock of bats in Stone Cave - check a flickering crevice in a Stone Cave. Pushovers in the later stages of the game (or even in the early stages if you bought the right equipment).
5. A flock of bats in Ice Cave - check a flickering crevice in a Ice Cave. Pushovers in the later stages of the game (or even in the early stages if you bought the right equipment).
6. Ogre - to the far left from the Ice Cave entrance. A pretty average boss. Not particularly hard in the later stages.
7. Dragon - in the Fire Cave. Hits very hard, but also has pretty low defence. Hit him hard and fast and use equipment to minimise the fire based damage.
8. Garuda - by the Fire Cave entrance. Only Emantha can reliably damage it, though Etreyan with an elemental sword and "Pierce" attack can also do it. All the other party members run support and healing.
9. Three Memories - the hardest boss battle in the game. I never managed to beat them, but according to suggestions, Emantha's "Curse" and Atreyan's "Dispel Shadow" work against them, with the others running support.

24 comments:

  1. Atreyan can also damage the Garuda, using an elemental sword (I used the Holy Sword) and Pierce. Pierce is the only thing he can do to damage it and it has to be with an elemental sword.

  2. Also Scythe doesn't 1hit kill Atreyan if his HP is sufficiently high

"go North and then North-West to the Stone Cave, following the path. 6. Eventually you'll reach the clearing. Find a Monolith "
You won't find the monolith on the way to the stone dungeon; you have to take a different fork.

"8. Return to the Monolith and touch it again."
You have to find a new monolith for each person you want to awaken; you cannot use the same monolith on both Atreyan and a girl.

Three memories have 100% dodge so you have to use attacks that can't miss. Dispel Shadow, Swift Strike, and Curse are basically your whole offense. Amiel can heal when needed or guard if not, and other characters can use restorative items if needed and should Guard when they need to restore TP.

    1. 1. I didn't mean 'on the way to the cave'. Changed 'to' to 'of' to better reflect the directions.
      2. Dah, that's exactly what the walkthrough says.
      3. Thanks for the tips about the memories, but they are still hard as hell.

      2. No, it's misleading.

"6. Eventually you'll reach the clearing. Find a Monolith and touch it five times until you get a plot important scene.
      7. Return to the City and talk to all three girls.
      8. Return to the Monolith and touch it again."

It sounds like you are talking about the same monolith. You need to go to the monolith near the start, not the one in the vine area.

    3. I am talking about the same Monolith. Maybe you don't remember the sequence well, but it goes like this:
You go to the first Monolith and touch it five times, but you still don't get the magical spell from it. Then you have to return to the city, talk to the girls and and then return to the monolith. Then touch it, receive the spell and only then you can use it on one of the girls.

No, I remember the sequence. Nothing happens with that monolith after the one important scene related to it. Atreyan says "I no longer need this shrine, now or in any future cycle." - and he is correct. Nothing happens when I follow your instructions.

Besides, since there are four monoliths, being able to awaken a girl with the same monolith that awakened Atreyan would leave one monolith useless.

    5. Memory is an interesting thing. I have replayed the game until the sequence in discussion, and it seems I was indeed wrong. I corrected the walkthrough to reflect that.

  4. Hi to hit the Memory you have to attack with Emantha (only "Curse") and with Atreyan (only with "Dispel Shadow"), with the other you must do support teira (empower) and Amiel (Heal). When you win you get Glimmer of Memory (restors HP,MP,TP)

  6. found a hitch with your guide this part does not work in 2.0 as you dont keep the amulet and im still 79 gold short of it with all chests opened except stone cave
    11. Go back to the Fire Cave courtyard and turn right past the pillar of fire (you don't have to re-buy the Amulet - you have retained it from the previous Cycle). Enter the clearing with the third Monolith.

    1. My walkthrough is not supposed to be used with v2.0 of the game, as Sierra changed added a lot of new content. I should probably add a disclaimer about that.
There is a walkthrough out there for the new version written by someone else.

    1. I don't think I can help you, as it's been a year since I have played the game.
You would have more luck asking Sierra Lee directly (https://the-last-sovereign.blogspot.lt/). I'm sure she will help you.

  8. i'm playing the newgrounds version and you don't retain the amulet of fire and i can't get enough gold to buy it again

    1. Considering the offline version I played is identical to the online one (minus some minor visual differences), you don't have to re-buy the amulet for the third cycle. If you are really stuck somewhere you cal always ask Sierra herself on her blog.

    1. I played the game way too long ago. Don't remember that particular situation and cannot help you. You should contact Sierra on her blog, she is active there and readily answers questions.

    1. You obviously didn't read what the game tells you. You only need 40 gold; Teira will cover the rest of the cost. Once you have 40 in your purse, go and buy the bomb.

when you go to the south monolith and have amiel with you, you can enter the elfen village, buy and trade everything except the assault ring and you will obtain a rope, which you will need to trade with multiple elfes until your group discusses the cycle, trade it again with the elf in the top left corner, then enter the tent in the middle for a harem h scene ^^
